The Malabar neem wood price is around 9000 to 11000 Rs/ton at factory end . The Farmer usually sell at 5000 to 7000 Rs/ton at their farm gate. The price is still less in comparison to Poplar wood price which hover around 12000 to 15000 Rs/ton at factory end. The malabar neem wood is almost similar to Poplar wood and its prices should ideally match poplar prices in long run. Most buyers in Northern India, specially in Yamunanagar, Haryana ( biggest timber market in India) , are unaware of melia dubia wood. Therefore, there is less demand of melia dubia in northern India and hence less price for farmers.

We should keep in mind that Poplar is the fastest growing tree in the World. In India , Tree farmers should give preference to poplar, eucalyptus and Melia dubia tree from economic return point of view. However , Poplar tree is suitable for northern region only where there is no water stagnation in field and adequate irrigation facility. Melia dubia tree take more time than poplar to grow but it require less water. Hence , it is promoted by Indian government in Central India . Eucalyptus plantation can fetch more income if planted for plywood industry and not for Paper industry. Most paper industry give around 3000 Rs./ton (factory end) in southern India whereas plywood industry can offer more than 8000 to 11000 Rs/ton for wood logs.
